My Petite Fearless Toddler: Confidence Comes In All Sizes

A fearless toddler can come in all sizes; one need not necessarily be on the 100th growth percentile to demonstrate confidence. On the 12th of this month our daughter will be 21 months and can still fit in 9-month leggings. At 5’2” I’m no basketball star and the hubby is 5’10” or was 5’10” and according to his last checkup he’s shrunk an inch or so! Ha ha ha. He’s about 5’9.” Needless to say, our little girl is small and short in stature, but she has a big heart and resounding determination.

OUR FEARLESs TODDLER LOVES TO EXPLORE

Our fearless toddler thoroughly enjoys exploring without needing to be checked on. She’s got amazing recall and remembers patterns such as where we walk or what route we take.

I mean, jeez, I get lost in a parking lot! Ariabella isn’t afraid of anything and so we try to encourage her confidence. We go to an indoor play park that is very big and she remembers where we sit. She’ll go play on her own and come back to me.

Of course, I’m not at the point where I can let her run off to play on her own for more than 5 minutes. When she gets a little older perhaps then I’ll feel more secure in loosening up the reins. Then I’ll be one of those moms focused on her laptop attempting to crank out work. You seriously enjoy every free second you have when you’re a mom.

BAD WEATHER = FEARLESS TODDLER TO GO STIR CRAZY

I get stir crazy pretty easily and have to be up doing something. For me, if I’m not working I don’t feel productive. Creativity is my work, but it doesn’t feel like work because I have to create it’s just in my blood. Both the hubby and I are writers, so our fearless toddler loves to read as well.

Reading is great for your child’s vocabulary and brain growth. When I was a kid, I was the exact same and the hubby as well. But, Ariabella is at the age where if we take her to the bookstore or the library she’ll just run all over the place and laugh while we try to chase her.

INDOOR PLAY PARKS ALLOWS FEARLESS TODDLERS TO EXPLORE SAFELY

So, indoor play parks work for us as it wasn’t raining today, but super foggy and cold. We live by the beach, so I can’t complain too much and in SoCal the weather is usually perfect year round. If you have a fearless toddler like I do, allowing them to explore their environment and surroundings without being too over protective is a good thing.

Of course you want to make sure they’re safe and you do need to keep a close eye on them. But, I think that we can all let our kids be kids and praise them when they overcome mild stones. Indoor play parks are great because most of them are baby/toddler proof with cushion galore. So, parents can allow toddlers to explore without fear of injury. Putting too much pressure on kids to see them succeed or achieve = rebellious behavior. If we allow them to learn at their own pace while also providing positive reinforcement, it’s just a better parenting recipe.

Problems can arise when our babies grow up and hit the rebellious teen stage. Remember, they do turn into young adults so it’s wise for parents to point their child in the right direction. A fearless toddler or child is one that exudes confidence and I believe it goes back to attentive parents that praise their children.
