Building memories requires unplanned excursions, even if it means getting derailed. Case in point, we just got back from Las Vegas. It took 4 hours just to get from Vegas to the state line. Yes, 4 hours. Picture our Prius: We have our 19 month old + 2 dogs + Christmas gifts.
The dogs came with because the only kennel vacancy was in Las Vegas. It is worth it for us to kennel our dogs as oppose to having to constantly check in on them and walk them. They’re old and require frequent walks now.
Stuck At The State Line
The next thing we know, we are getting a room at Buffalo Bills because the traffic’s that bad. I mean, bumper to bumper all the way down the I-15! But it didn’t end up being such a bad experience. My husband exclaimed, “This is an adventure! We’re building memories!” The entire experience could have been a real pain, but it ended up being fun.
Your Outlook Is Everything
When parenting, it’s easy to get overwhelmed when plans go awry. But, nothing is ever quite perfect because life throws us curve balls. And when it does, we have to let go and just give in to unplanned moments. Hey, my daughter got the cutest Rudolph mug accompanied by matching red nose and antler ears at Denny’s of all places cause that’s what was available. And since Dallas is my birth place, it might be a tad obvious that I’m a Cowboys fan. We arrived in time for me to watch the Cowboys beat the Detroit Lyons.
My hubby put Ariabella to bed while I got to play a little penny slots and broke even. I’m not much on gambling, but find it fun in moderation. When you let loose and find the silver lining in any circumstance, life gets easier. And it’s not so much that things or the situation changed, it’s that you have.
I hope your Christmas was great and that you embrace the New Year with fresh perspective.
