What My Spontaneous Baby Girl Has Taught Me

Spontaneous Baby Girl

Spontaneous Baby Girl = FUN!

I have a spontaneous baby girl who is constantly keeping me on my toes and helping me to appreciate special impromptu moments. We already went to the park earlier, where I watched my strong and independent little girl crawl up the stairs on her own and push herself down the slide. It wasn’t until on one of our walks later that day that my daughter pointed to the ocean and said “beach, beach.” So, we strolled down to the ocean, counting my blessings that we live within walking distance.

Garbed in workout gear myself, neither of us was wearing bathing suits. So, yes, you can say we were inadequately prepared to get wet. While I tried to be careful to only get my daughter’s little feet wet, her gleeful encouragement overtook the situation as she literally took my finger and led me closer to the ocean. By the time I realized we were too close not to get wet, the tide swept in putting my spontaneous baby girl waist deep in the ocean, which meant that my socks and running shoes were emerged, too.

I could feel the sand and salt water squashing into my shoes and soon a “plop” sound alerted me that while I was trying to pull my daughter to her feet, it seemed she wasn’t the only thing in the ocean. Oops, my iPhone also took a dip. Luckily, I managed to rescue it in time and dry it off before it would suffer from any water damage. I was thankful I spent the extra money on the bright pink Pelican case. Pink was never my color before having my daughter; I guess little girls have an effect on you. Hearing her little laughter and squealing delight, my heart melted as she splashed carefree in the ocean, not worried in the least if her diaper or clothes would get soaked.

The sand and water smothered more than our clothes, also getting into every nook and cranny of our jogging stroller; but my spontaneous baby girl had the biggest smile on her face all the while. In my mind, I had my daughter’s joy-filled face and laughter seared into my memory like a ray of sunshine breaking up the gloom on an overcast day. Every time the ocean tide would come in, she would laugh and laugh. She wanted to go further in and if it were her choice, she would dive in and go as far as she could. My daughter is small, but mighty in heart and passion for enjoying every single moment of this new thing called life.

Children are amazing in this way. They teach us how to see things as they do, completely brand new. We are numb to the fantastical little things we’ve grown accustomed to, but babies are a clean slate, totally enthralled by just about everything. This parenting thing is tough; it takes a lot of effort, hard work, and time. But, when we stop focusing so much on the stress and allow ourselves to experience the fun in it all, we find ourselves becoming re-acquainted with the little kid within us. The inner child that believed in dreams, imagined, never took a moment for granted, and saw the beauty in littlest things in life.

Being a kid with your kid isn’t such a bad thing, having fun and acting spontaneous and even silly might just be what you need. I know it was a remedy that I needed and I didn’t even know it.
